Overview
Juneteenth on the East is an annual celebration in Northeast Oklahoma City that honors Black freedom, excellence, and community. The event brings together families, artists, and entrepreneurs for a day of food, music, and movement in the historic East End Cultural District.
Apparent Creative, in collaboration with Nominee Design was brought in to create a visual identity that could amplify the cultural impact of the event and build a recognizable brand system that would energize the community and evolve year after year.

The Challenge
With growing attendance and community investment, Juneteenth on the East needed to move beyond one-off flyers and develop a cohesive, elevated design language that still felt grassroots and deeply local.

Key challenges included:
1.Representing the depth and vibrancy of Black culture through design
2. Creating a visual system that works across digital, print, signage, and merch
3. Developing assets that could be reused or adapted in future years
The Solution
Our team built an expressive brand system rooted in Pan-African symbolism, street art, and community pride. We blended cultural references with modern design techniques to craft visuals that were bold, welcoming, and undeniably Eastside.
Visual Identity
We developed a vibrant palette inspired by the Juneteenth flag, with rich reds, deep blues, and radiant yellows evoking liberation, resilience, and celebration.
Typography was intentionally bold and rhythmic, using expressive typefaces to create a sense of movement and musicality.
We incorporated hand-drawn textures and collage-like compositions that felt both historic and contemporary—like the community itself.

Systematic Design Approach
Instead of one-off graphics, we created a modular toolkit of reusable patterns, background textures, layouts, and visual elements that future organizers could scale or remix.
Impact
The branding helped position Juneteenth on the East not just as a local event—but as a cultural institution. It signaled to attendees, vendors, and city leaders that this event was rooted, intentional, and ready to grow.

The result?
A record-breaking turnout and increase in media visibility
Unified branding across all touchpoints, from print to Instagram
Assets that can serve the event for years to come, empowering the community to own and evolve the look
